ABOUT THE COMPANY – COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE
The Council for Geoscience (CGS) is one of the national science councils of South Africa. It was established in 1993 by the Geoscience Act and is the legal successor to the Geological Survey of South Africa, which was formed in 1912. The CGS is mandated to promote research, extend knowledge in the field of geoscience and provide specialised geoscientific services.
COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE BURSARY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
In order for your application to be considered by the CGS in 2024, you must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must be South African citizens
- Applicants must not be employed and available for vocational work during studies and work back upon completion of studies, when required
- Applicants must be planning to enroll full-time at a South African institution of higher learning for the 2024 academic year
- You must have completed Grade 12 with an achievement of Level 6 or higher in both Mathematics and Physical Science
- Be a registered fulltime student at a South African institution of higher learning
- For students currently at an institution of higher learning, must have passed all the modules of the previous year/semester

- Geology
- Engineering Geology
- Geophysics
- Hydrogeology (focus on groundwater modelling)
- Geochemistry
- Economic Geology
- Environmental Science
- Geo-informatics
- Remote sensing
- Computational Geosciences
- Mineral Economics
- Mining seismology
COUNCIL FOR GEOSCIENCE BURSARY VALUE & BENEFITS
The bursary will cater for the following expenses while you focus on your studies:
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation and Meals
- Prescribed Books
- Excursions/research
- Once off laptop allowance for first-time bursars.
