Rand Water Bursary Programme South Africa

Rand Water is a South African water utility company that supplies bulk potable water to approximately 14 million people in Gauteng, the most populous province in South Africa. It is the sole supplier of bulk potable water to the Johannesburg metropolitan area, as well as to the municipalities of Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and the West Rand.

The company is responsible for the abstraction, treatment, and distribution of water from various sources, including the Vaal River, Lesotho Highlands Water Project, and groundwater boreholes.

Rand Water has a strong track record of providing reliable and high-quality water to its customers, and is committed to playing a leading role in the sustainable development of the water sector in South Africa.

Study Fields Covered by the Rand Water Bursary

Rand Water invites undergraduate students who are interested in joining the Water Sector an opportunity to apply for the External Bursary Scheme for following disciplines:

  • Accounting / Finance: B Comm (only one 3rd year student supported)
  • Chemical Engineering / Chemistry / Biochemistry: BSc (two 3rd year students to supported)
  • Chemistry: BSc (two 2nd year students supported)
  • Corporate Communication: B Comm (only one 2nd year student supported)
  • Economics: BCom (two 3rd year students supported)
  • Electrical: Diploma (two 2nd year students supported)
  • Hydrology / Modeling: BSc Hons (only one 4th year student supported)
  • Instruments and Process Control: Diploma (two 2nd year students supported)
  • Maintenance Engineering: BEng (three 2nd year students supported)
  • Mechanical Engineering: BEng (three 2nd year students supported)
  • Microbiology: BSc Hons (only one 2nd year student supported)
  • Natural Science (Environmental Education): BSc (two 3rd year studentssupported)

As a Bursar you are expected to complete qualification on Record time in line with Bursary Contract/Agreement.

Eligibility Criteria for the Rand Water Bursary

To be eligible for the Rand Water bursary, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be under 35 years old
  • Have completed Matric or an equivalent qualification
  • Be enrolled full-time in a qualifying degree program at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
  • Maintain a minimum overall average of 65% and demonstrate strong academic performance in your major subject
  • Express a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the water sector
  • Come from a previously disadvantaged background
  • Not be receiving any other bursary awards or funding
  • Possess strong self-motivation and a results-oriented approach
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commit to completing your chosen qualification within the specified timeframe outlined in the bursary agreement
  • Female students and students with disabilities will be given preferential consideration, aligning with Rand Water’s Employment Equity initiatives.
