Eligibility for ITHUBA Bursary – Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen: Unleash your potential and contribute to your nation’s future.
  • Be a Matric graduate: Build on your existing foundation and reach new academic heights.
  • Embrace the young talent spirit: Be under 23 years old and demonstrate youthful drive and innovation.
  • Pursue your passion: Be enrolled or intending to enroll towards a Commerce or IT qualification listed above, fueling your dreams in these dynamic fields.
  • Seek knowledge at a recognized institution: Hone your skills at a reputable and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Excel in your studies: Show your dedication with a minimum of 70% in each subject and a 70% overall average in your previous year of study.
  • Specialize and shine: Be ready to focus your expertise in a specific Commerce or IT field, becoming a leader in your chosen domain.
  • Embrace lifelong learning: Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a strong academic record throughout your studies, showcasing your continuous pursuit of knowledge.
  • Bridge the gap: Come from a previously disadvantaged background, bringing diverse perspectives and enriching the scholarship community.
  • Show financial need: Have a total household income of under R350,000 per year, ensuring the scholarship truly supports those who require it most.

ITHUBA Bursary Coverage

successful applicants will have the following expenses taken care of by ITHUBA while focusing on their studies:

  • tuition fees,
  • accommodation,
  • textbooks,
  • laptop and
  • a stipend

Application Process

All aplications must be submitted online via ITHUBA Bursary Application official page before the closing date.

Required Documents

  1. Certified copy of your ID document
  2. Certified copy of your Matric certificate
  3. Certified copy of your previous year’s academic transcript or results (if currently studying)
  4. Proof of provisional admission or acceptance at a tertiary institution, presented on the institution’s letterhead
  5. Proof of provisional admission for residency or private accommodation, also presented on the institution’s letterhead
  6. Certified copies of your parents’ or guardians’ ID documents
  7. Proof of your parents’ or guardians’ household income, which can be provided as follows:
    • Latest payslip or employment letter if employed
    • Affidavit if an informal trader
    • Affidavit if unemployed
    • Certified copy of SASSA letter if receiving a grant
