WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE VOLKSWAGEN BURSARY COVER?

The Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) Bursary Programme supports eligible full-time undergraduate students studying selected qualifications at accredited tertiary institutions in South Africa. The programme covers the following fields:

  • Engineering: Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering.
  • Marketing: Digital Marketing.
  • Logistics and Operations: Business Administration in Logistics and Supply Chain, Production Management and Operations Management.
  • Information Technology and Data: Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science with a Data Science major, Informatics with Data Analytics, Statistics and Computer Science, Mathematical Systems, Informatics, Business Analysis, Information Technology with Business Security, Information Technology (Networks), Computer Networks, Information Networking, Cyber Security specialisation, and Information Technology with Systems, Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning.
  • Finance and Accounting: Finance, BCom Finance and Bachelor of Accounting Science.
  • Economics and Business: BCom Economics, International Relations and Business Administration.

Applicants must be entering their second, third or fourth year of undergraduate study. Master’s and doctoral studies are not covered.

WHAT ARE THE VOLKSWAGEN BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?

Applicants for this Bursary Programme must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African-born citizen.
  • Have completed Matric with a Bachelor’s Pass and a minimum average of 70%.
  • Be studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the listed fields.
  • Be entering the second, third or fourth year of study in 2027.
  • Have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in tertiary studies.
  • Be registered at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa.
  • Not be employed on a full-time basis.

WHAT DOES THE VOLKSWAGEN BURSARY COVER?

  • Tuition fees.
  • Accommodation.
  • Meals.
  • Books and stationery.
  • A laptop for study purposes.
  • Vacation work opportunities.
  • Mentoring and development.

WORK-BACK OBLIGATION

Successful bursary recipients are required to sign an agreement provided by VWGA. The programme includes a work-back obligation after graduation for every year of bursary funding received. Applicants should review the agreement carefully to understand the conditions before accepting an award.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE VOLKSWAGEN BURSARY?

  • Certified copy of a valid South African ID.
  • Certified copy of the Matric certificate or Grade 12 results.
  • Certified full tertiary academic records for all years of tertiary study, including study at previous institutions.
  • Certified copy of the latest official academic transcript or institution report.
  • Official university fee statement for 2026.
  • Certified proof of registration for 2026, where applicable.
  • A comprehensive CV.
  • A motivational letter explaining why the applicant wishes to receive the bursary.
  • A lease agreement if living in off-campus accommodation.
  • If funded by another bursary or NSFAS, the relevant bursary agreement, letter or offer.
  • For applicants with disabilities, the Department of Employment and Labour EEA1 form and a medical diagnosis letter.
  • Certified parent or guardian ID documents, or a death certificate if applicable.
  • For applicants younger than 18, a signed consent form completed by a parent or legal guardian and a certified copy of that person’s ID.

WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE VOLKSWAGEN BURSARY?

Applications for the Volkswagen Group Africa Bursary have closed for 2027. They closed on 28 September 2026.

The next intake cycle is expected to open around July 2027.
