WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE VW BURSARY?

The 2027 programme is aimed at South African-born citizens studying full-time at an accredited tertiary institution. The bursary is available to students progressing through their undergraduate studies rather than Master’s or Doctoral programmes.

  • Applicants must be South African-born citizens.
  • Applicants must be registered as full-time students.
  • Applicants must be studying at a tertiary institution accredited by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and/or Council on Higher Education (CHE).
  • Applicants must be in their 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study.
  • Applicants must meet the academic performance requirements set by VWGA.
  • Grade 12 applicants must have achieved a Bachelor’s pass with a minimum average of 70%.
  • Current tertiary students must have a minimum average of 65%.
  • Applicants must meet the requirements for one of the fields listed for the 2027 programme.
  • Master’s and Doctoral students are not eligible for this bursary.

VWGA states that applicants may also go through screening, shortlisting, interviews and psychometric assessments during the selection process.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE VW BURSARY?

Applications are completed online through the Volkswagen Group Africa (VWGA) Bursary Application 2027 page.

  • Complete the online application form.
  • Upload all required supporting documents.
  • Check that the information and documents are complete before submitting the application.

Incomplete applications and applications containing misrepresentations will be disregarded.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE VW BURSARY?

The 2027 application requires applicants to prepare certified documents and supporting information for upload. Certified documents must be less than three months old.

  • Motivation letter explaining why you want to be part of the VWGA Bursary Programme
  • Recent certified parent or guardian South African ID, or death certificate where applicable
  • Comprehensive CV
  • Full tertiary academic records for all years of tertiary study
  • Latest or June 2026 official academic transcript, or official institution report
  • Certified copy of a valid Matric Certificate
  • Official 2026 university fee statement
  • 2026 proof of registration, where applicable

Applicants who live in off-campus accommodation should also provide their lease agreement. The portal allows certain additional documents to be submitted where applicable, including evidence of other bursary or NSFAS funding and a 2027 acceptance letter.

WHAT IS THE VW BURSARY OBLIGATION?

Successful bursary recipients must sign an agreement with Volkswagen Group Africa setting out the conditions attached to the bursary.

  • The agreement includes a work-back employment period at Volkswagen Group Africa.
  • The bursary may be terminated if an applicant or awardee is found not to be studying full-time or is in paid employment.
  • Where the bursary contract is terminated for these reasons, the recipient may be required to repay the benefits received.

WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE VW BURSARY?

The closing date for the VW Bursary is Monday, 28 September 2026 at 12 midday.

  • The bursary is allocated for the 2027 academic year.
  • Applications received after the stated deadline will not be considered.
