WHAT DOES THE CITRUS ACADEMY BURSARY COVER?
The Citrus Academy Bursary Fund provides partial financial support rather than a guaranteed fully funded package. Depending on the award, funding may contribute towards tuition fees, accommodation, meals, books, stationery and other eligible study-related expenses.
Postgraduate funding may also contribute towards research costs. The value and approved expenses depend on the support awarded to each student. Applicants should confirm the funding terms in the current Bursary Fund information and agreement.
WHAT ARE THE CITRUS ACADEMY BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?
The Citrus Academy Bursary Fund is intended for tertiary students studying in fields relevant to the citrus industry and interested in pursuing a career in the sector.
The eligibility requirements provided for the programme include the following:
- Be a citizen of South Africa, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) or Zimbabwe.
- Be studying full-time or part-time at a registered tertiary institution in South Africa.
- Be enrolled in a field related to citrus production or research.
- Be entering the second year of study or a later year.
- Have an interest in pursuing a career in the citrus industry.
- Comply with the terms and conditions of the Citrus Academy Bursary Fund agreement.
Eligible institution categories include recognised universities, universities of technology and colleges, subject to the programme’s applicable rules.
Applications may be assessed using factors such as academic performance, the relevance of the qualification to the citrus industry, financial need, previous disadvantage, a connection to the citrus industry, gender and disability. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an award.

Applicants must access the Student Community and follow the instructions for the Bursary Fund application. The application process is online; applications submitted by email, fax or post are not accepted.

WHAT WORK OBLIGATION APPLIES AFTER GRADUATION?
Successful recipients are required to sign a Bursary Agreement and comply with the programme’s applicable academic and conduct conditions.
The bursary terms provided for the programme state that recipients must work in the citrus industry after completing their studies for at least the period for which they received bursary support. For example, a student who receives funding for one year would generally be required to work in the citrus industry for at least one year after graduation.
