The Maize Trust Bursary is awarded to attract young people whi wish to pursue a career in agricultural science studies. South Africa is a consumer of maize and other produces that make up the profile of the country’s leading diet. Central to the development of the sector is the availability of skills needed to sustain it so that it meets the demand of maize.
The Maize Trust avails bursaries to students who wish to enrol or further their tertiary education. Agricultural studies must be undertaken in institutions within South Africa borders.
ABOUT THE MAIZE TRUST
The Maize trust is a South African financial organisation that is tasked to support the maize industry. It does this by undertaking projects aimed at Research & Development, Market Development, Maize Growers Support and Infrastructure Development Initiatives.
The Trust takes it upon itself to ensure that the sector remains competitive and sustainable. It must always grow to meet the demand but also the financial needs of farmers who produce maize.
WHAT IS THE MAIZE TRUST BURSARY?
To respond to its tasks and responsibilities of development, the Maize Trust makes available bursaries to students who wish enrol at university. Successful applicants must be pursuing studies in Agriculture in a South African institution of higher learning.
The bursary will pay students’ expenses that they incur while pursuing their qualification of choice in line with the Trust requirements. When you are taken and are funded, you will have your tuition fees, accommodation, books and some allowances covered by the Maize Trust.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
In order for the Maize Fund to consider your funding application, you must meet these requirements below:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must be admitted on full-time basis by a recognized institution of higher learning
- Only Masters or Doctoral studies are funded
- You must be pursuing a qualification that is in line with the maize industry
- You must not hold a bursary of financial assistance from another entity
- Your dissertation must get the approval of the Maize Trust

All applications for the Maize Trust Bursary must be completed online via a dedicated page. Click here to start with your bursary application. Make sure that your application is complete before the closing date on 1 October every year. This allows for proper evaluation of all applications before the new year commences.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
The Maize Trust will evaluate all applications received for 2025 academic year. For this to happen, you must provide the following set of documents:
- Your recently updated CV
- A complete bursary application form downloaded from the link provided above
- A certified copy of your SA ID (green book or smart card)
- Your academic performance transcript/results on the institution’s letterhead
- Please provide official proof that you have been registered
- A supervisor approved by the Maize Trust and the University where the student will be studying.
