About The Astron Energy Bursary – Fields of Study
Applicants must pursue full-time studies in one of these SAQA-registered fields for 2026 (final year or 1-year postgraduate preferred; 1st-year if child of Astron employee):
Engineering Stream (BSc or BEng):
- Chemical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering (Light and Heavy Current)
- Industrial Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Commerce Stream (BCom preferred):
- Project Management / Business Administration
- Property Studies
- Supply Chain Management / Logistics Management
- Digital Marketing
- Human Resources Management
Other Streams:
- Environmental Sciences
- Finance
- Data Analysis / IT
- General STEM Science
Astron Energy Bursary Value and Benefits
Successful applicants for the 2026 academic year will receive full-cost funding, including:
- Tuition fees
- Textbooks and study materials
- Accommodation
- Food/meal allowance
- Monthly living stipend
- Other approved necessities (e.g., registration fees)
Additional perks: Psycho-social support, mentorship, work-readiness training, and private tutoring. Note: Awardees commit to a work-back period (1 year at Astron per funded year) or repay with interest.
Eligibility Requirements for the Astron Energy Bursary
- You must be under 35 years of age to be considered for the bursary programme
- You must be South African citizens.
- You must be pursuing a FULL-TIME qualification (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree, Masters, Etc)
- You must be pursuing their qualification-level for the first time (ie, not repeating a degree, honours, etc)
- You must be pursuing a qualification or intending to pursue a qualification at any tertiary institution registered with DHET and SAQA. (This includes private/community colleges and TVETS)

Supporting Documents Required
Below is the list of all required documents that must accompany your application:
- Your South African identity document (certified copies)
- Parents/Guardian’s valid South African ID (or death certificate if deceased)* (certified copies)
- Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) – You need to attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*
- Disability? Dept of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter *
- Grade 11 end-year report (with school stamp)
- Grade 12 term-2 school report (with school stamp)
- A copy of 2026 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. – Official letter showing you’ve been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2026
- Certified copy of the latest Official academic transcript/s- For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies*
- Matric Certificate (certified by a commissioner of Oaths or police station)
- Did you get funded by another bursary/NSFAS?; upload your bursary agreement/letter/offer*
- Matric Certificate (certified by a commissioner of Oaths or police station)
- Recommendation letter by Supervisor
- All certified copies must be less than 3 months old.
- *Where you have multiple documents for 1 submission, please combine/scan them into 1 file that you can upload.
