ABOUT THE CSIR BURSARY – FIELDS OF STUDY
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is a leading scientific and technology research organisation that researches, develops, localizes and diffuses technologies to accelerate socio-economic prosperity in South Africa. The organizationās work contributes to industrial development and supports a capable state.
The CSIR has a bursary opportunity in the Hydrogen Centre of South Africa Infrastructure research group within the Energy Centre of the Smart Places Cluster. The purpose of the bursary is to provide student with financial assistance towards their Masterās studies.
Areas of Focus
The research work will focus on the design and development of methanol synthesis catalysts, determination of their structural properties and testing of their catalytic activity.

MORE ABOUT CSIR BURSARY – ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- An Honours degree in chemistry, applied chemistry or material sciences with background in inorganic chemistry;
- Some hand-on exposure in heterogeneous catalysis research at honours level or catalysts design and with capability to set-up chemical reaction processes;
- Prior knowledge in working with reactor set-up and GC-FID analysis is a high valued advantage;
- Knowledge in characterisation techniques such as XRD, BET, SEM and TEM is desirable;
- Effective communication skills (oral, written and presentation);
- Ability to work independently, as well as working in a team;
- Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines;
- Proficiency with MS Office suite and relevant scientific software.

Documents Required
- A certified copy of your barcoded ID.
- A copy of your CV.
- All high school applicants must attach a certified copy of their grade 11 reports. If applicable, please provide proof of provisional university acceptance.
- For students who have already completed their matric,please attach a certified copy of your matric certificate.
- All tertiary students must submit certified copies of their matric results and their most recent official transcript. For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies, please combine all your transcripts into one document.
- Proof of registration for students currently enrolled at a tertiary institution.
- For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
