List of Land Surveying Bursaries
Land surveying is a study or the science of boundaries, line, corners of land based on recorded documents and historic evidence. It is land surveyors who are involved in the measurement of properties and pieces of land to determine where exactly boundaries are or should be.
Most organisations offering land surveying in South Africa are municipalities and some government departments. You can understand why: they get involved in projects that are in the construction and built environment.
Land Surveying Bursaries
Here are some of land surveying bursaries that are offering by various organisations & companies in South Africa:
1. Richards Bay Minerals Bursary
This company is situated in KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa in a town called Richards Bay.
Richards Bay Minerals now bought by Rio Tinto makes available bursaries for various fields of study including land surveying bursaries.
Richards Bay Minerals land surveying bursary details are available and can be viewed on the company’s website under careers. You can also submit your application on the same website.
To qualify for RBM’s land surveying bursary you must be (i) a South Africa citizen (ii) possess Matric (iii) studying or intend studying on full time bases (iv) have Science & Mathematics in your subjects (v ) students with disabilities are also invited to apply.
2. City of Capetown Bursary
The City of Cape is also one of municipalities that are offering land surveying bursaries to South Africa students. Successful applicants will be covered for registration, tuition, accommodation, meals and book allowance.
This bursary is open to applicants who (i) have Matric (ii) reside within the Cape Metropol area (iii) students enrolled for diploma, undergraduates degree, postgraduates degree in land surveying in South Africa.

3. EThekwini Municipality Bursary
Being the biggest municipality in the province of KwaZulu Natal, the EThekwini municipality attracts a large number of individuals looking to start their careers in the municipality.
Development Planning, Environment and Management department is responsible for land surveying, construction and build related issues in the municipality. Graduates who complete their qualifications in this field of study are likely to be absorbed in this department.
EThekwini municipality offers this bursary as a quantity surveying bursary instead of land surveying. It also offers architecture bursary and they are both absorbed by the Development Planning, Environment and Management department.
Bursary Amount: The municipality pays for registration, tuition, accommodation, books and computer allowance. These alowances may very depending on the institution you are accepted in.
Eligibility: Awards are made to South African citizens, studying towards selected fields of study including quantity surveying, high achievers and students who reside within EThekwini metropole. Students with disabilities are also encouraged to apply.

4. PPS Foundation Bursary
PPS Foundation was established with the aim to improve access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths fields of study.
The PPS Foundation makes available and surveying, town planning and architecture bursaries to deserving applicants.
Bursary Value: This covers payment for tuition, text books, as well as accommodation.
Eligibility: Full time university students, possessing Matric, 4th year students, average of 75% on previous year and be able to demonstrate financial need.

5. Saldanah Bay Municipality Bursaries
The Saldanha Bay Mucipality is inviting applications for its 2022 Bursaries in the fields os study listed below. Bursary applications are invited from tertiary students for the 2022 academic year which will be extended to a maximum of three years provided that the candidate adheres to the bursary conditions.
Eligibility – Applicants who intend to study for an undergraduate degree or a national diploma in land surveying and other fields of study stipulated by the municipality. You must (i) be a South African (ii) be in possession of Matric (iii) must have achieved an average of 60% in Matric OR a minimum overall average of 50% AND a minimum result of 60% for Mathematics
Bursary Value – The maximum estimated bursary amount for 2022 is R70 000 per bursar per year.
Institutions – Any accredited university or university of technology that offers a degree or diploma in land surveying. Studies must be carried out within the boarders of South Africa
