Fine Music Radion Bursary (FMR) Bursary 2026

Many South African students dream of performing or singing opera in grand concert halls but have not funds to pursue related studies. If you are one of many students who are studying towards a Diploma or Degree in Music, the Fine Music Radio Bursary Trust Programme can help you achieve that. The Fine Music Radio station is a Cape Town-based community radio that has become popular for its dedication to classical and jazz music.

What Is The Fine Music Radio Bursary?

The bursary is offered the Trust that was established by the Rolf-Stephan Nussbaum Foundation. The objective of the Trust is to fund and promote excellence in music performance. The bursary provides financial support through bursaries and scholarships to students who are committed to building careers through music.

Fields of Study

The FMR Bursary Trust Awards allocate a total prize of R120,000, divided among winners in the following fields of study:

  • African Music (vocal/instrumental)
  • Classical Vocal
  • Classical Instrumental
  • Jazz Vocal/Instrumental

Eligibility Criteria for Fine Music Radio Bursary

If you are a music student in who reside in South Africa, you may be eligible for this exciting opportunity. To apply, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen living in South Africa.
  • Be registered for a Diploma or Degree in Music at a recognised South African tertiary institution.
  • Be studying towards a performance qualification in music.

FMR Bursary Application Process

All applications must be done online via Fine Music Radio Bursary Application page. Before you start applying, make sure that you read and understand FMR Bursary Programme Rules.

When you apply for funding, you must attach the following supporting documents:

  • A copy of your South African ID
  • Proof of registration at your music institution (on official letterhead)
  • A reference or endorsement letter from a music teacher or lecturer (with name, contact details, and signature)
  • A short biography (max 300 words)
  • A motivational letter, including your career goals and how the bursary will help you
  • Full programme details (composers, arrangers, instruments, and accompaniment)
  • A link to your unlisted YouTube audition video

Applications Deadline

The closing date for applications is 13 June 2025. Make sure that your application reaches FMR before or on this date or you will not qualify.
