The SAAB Scholarship is offered by the South African Association of Botanists to support deserving students. As a professional organisation that supports botanists, SAAB promotes the study, research, and advancement of Botany in the country. In 2025, SAAB will celebrating 50 year since it was established.
The SAAB Scholarship awards funding support to students pursuing Honours and MSc in studies related to botany. The maximum funding per student is R15 000 for each year. MSc students will each receive R50 000 which is broken down into two payments of R25 000 in two years.
SAAB SCHOLARSHIP FIELDS OF STUDY
Applications are invited from students pursuing Postgraduate studies in the following fields of study:
- Honours studies in Botany or related studies
- MSc in Botany or related studies

ELIGBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE SAAB SCHOLARSHIP
Below is a set of requirements that you must meet for your application to be considered:
- Applicants must be supervised by SAAB paid-up member
- Both Honours and MSc studies must be undertaken in Universities within the borders of South Africa
- Only Postgraduate students in Botany or related studies must apply for funding
- Applicants must be in possession of an undergraduate qualification passed with at least 70% average
- Only SADC region students must apply (South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Seychelles, DRC, Tanzania, Madagascar, Comoros, Malawi, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Mauritius)
- MSc applicants must be in possession of a BSc Honours degree completed with a 70% pass average
