TotalEnergies Bursary is financial support that is aimed at helping students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. The bursary is awarded in-line with TotalEnergies commitment to “helping young people is driven by the firm belief that sustainable development cannot be achieved without effective solutions.”
TotalEnergies defines its sustainability agenda as the company’s drive to encourage young people from socially vulnerable backgrounds to take control of their future. In South Africa, the Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Limpopo and Gauteng Provinces are focus locations for inclusion and education agenda. The company’s beliefs and vision of helping previously excluded individuals has reached some parts of the African continent. In Uganda, TotalEnergies recently launched an education program which has empowered 3000 young people.
“I remember in 2012, after my O level, I was puzzled because, for my primary school, I was in a UPE school (Masindi Army Barracks), and I had scored 11 [aggregates]. My mom was like, You have done very well; you have so much potential. Just because you were in a UPE school, I know there were a lot of factors, but I commit to supporting you to at least go to one of the day schools in Kampala,” said Kemigisa, a student that benefited from the education program in Uganda.
In South Africa, more than 1000 have benefited from the company’s education program since its inception. The program has since created more than 40 permanent jobs.
