SASOL BURSARY PROGRAMME – STUDY FIELDS
You must undertake a Bachelor Engineering or Bachelor Scince in one of the following:
- Chemical Engineering,
- Civil Engineering,
- Computer Engineering,
- Electronic Engineering,
- Electrical Engineering,
- Industrial Engineering,
- Mechanical Engineering and
- Mining Engineering
Or a Bachelor Science in one of the following:
- Chemistry,
- Geology and
- Metallurgy
Please Note that a Honours degree is compulsory when pursuing all the Science fields

The Sasol Bursary programme consists of a comprehensive package that covers both financial and developmental support throughout your study period. Sasol bursaries are awarded on a full-time basis for university students. These bursaries are for engineering studies.

SASOL BURSARY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must meet the following minimum Requirements:
- Engineering : Mathematics 70%, Physical Science 70% English 60% and must have obtained a pass in all other subjects
- Science: Mathematics 70%, Physical Science 70% English 60% and must have obtained a pass in all other subjects
1. Sasol Undergraduate Bursaries
These buraries are for applicants wishing to pursue Bachelor degrees in Engineering or Science, this level includes honours degrees in our context.
The South African Undergraduate Programme aims to attract exceptional young talent to the organization. Bursaries awarded are for full-time studies for a Bachelors Degree (BSc or Bachelor Engineering) at a South African University and are offered to only South African Citizens.
2. Sasol University of Technology Bursaries
These ones are targeting applicants wishing to pursue diplomas or B Eng. Tech degrees at a University of Technology.
The Sasol University of Technology Bursary Programme boasts an all-inclusive bursary package, that offers more than just funding. This unique programme offers University of Technology bursars to complete their academic requirements (S1 – S4) at a University of Technology and practical training aspects (P1,P2 if applicable) – which takes place at Sasol.
These bursaries support only for studies in the following Engineering study fields:
Engineering: Process Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, Mine Surveying and Mechanical Engineering.
3. Sasol Postgraduate Bursaries
For candidates either who are completing or have completed degrees, wishing to pursue a Master’s or Doctorate study in Science or Engineering.
Sasol postgraduate bursaries are awarded for full-time university studies in Science and Engineering, at Master’s or Ph.D Degree level in the following fields only:
Chemistry (Master’s, and PhD levels only)
Chemical Engineering (Master’s and PhD levels only)
Please note that Sasol does not offer postgraduate bursaries in non-engineering/science study disciplines. Students should formulate a research project proposal and include a summary of their proposed project to the application. Sasol encourages projects which incorporate a multi-disciplinary approach. NB. Students with interest in a Honours Degree or 4th year studies should apply under South African Undergraduate studies, with the relevant year of study.
4. Sasol Foundation Bursary Programme
The Sasol Foundation offers all-inclusive bursaries to talented individuals who are planning to study full-time towards an undergraduate or postgraduate Degree or Diploma to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and non-STEM careers. The bursary extends to students wishing to study towards health and social sciences professions, amongst others.
5. Sasol Graduate Development Programme
The Sasol Graduate Development Programme is a corporate initiative that ensures that all graduates in the different disciplines conform to a high level of uniform standards in terms of orientation, training, development and exposure to the business processes. This programme is exclusively for our Engineer/Scientist in Training candidates. Sasol offers graduates an intensive 36 month long development programme that is rated one of the best in South Africa.Sasol Vacation Work
Sasol provides students the opportunity to obtain practical work experience related to their field of study, as required by the tertiary institution in order to complete the applicable degree. These opportunities are for vacation work that takes place from December to January each year.
HOW TO APPLY
Applying for the Sasol Bursary requires that you follow the steps provided below:
Step 1: Verify Your Eligibility
You first must ensure that your intended course of study is included in the list of supported fields of study. You also must check that you meet both the academic requirements and the personal eligibility requirements before you start with the application process.
Step 2: Prepare Required Documents
Gather the necessary supporting documents and make sure that all copies are certified. There must not be older than months. You need the following documents:
- A certified copy of your South African ID
- A detailed CV reflecting your academic background and relevant experience
- A certified copy of your Matric certificate
- Your academic results if you are already a university student
- Certified copies your academic transcripts, proof of registration, and any other optional supporting documents such as proof of previous bursary funding or disability documentation (for university students)
Step 3: Complete the Sasol Bursary Application Form
Complete the online application form carefully. Double-check that every required field is filled in correctly before submitting.
Step 4: Submit Your Application on Time
The deadline for applications is 18 May 2025. To avoid technical issues or delays, it’s best to submit well before the deadline.
