The GABS Bursary is the initiative by Golden Arrow Bus Service (GABS), a transport company operating more 1100 buses. The bus company is under the ownership of Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited. There are more than 1300 routes operated by GABS in Cape Peninsula and Cape Flats.
The Golden Arrow Bus Service is one of the oldest in the country as it was formed in year 1861. Its early days operations was conducted by the use of horse-drawn carriages. GABS today owns modern fleet of buses that are considered the most efficient in the Western Cape Province.

The Golden Arrow Bus Service (GABS) Bursary is a financial support designed to assist needy students. It caters for students expenses which include tuition fees, transport and accommodation.
Students interested in applying for the bursary programme must be on the 2nd year studies. It is an undergraduate funding programme for a BSc in Computer Science.
GABS BURSARY FIELDS OF STUDY
Students doing a BSc. Computer Science are invited to apply for support from Golden Arrow Bus Services (GABS). Only 2nd year undergraduate applicants will be considered for 2025 academic year.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE GOLDEN ARROW BURSARY
Below is a set of requirements that applicants must meet to be considered for funding:
- Applicants must be a South African citizens
- Applicants must be on the 2nd year of a BSc in Computer Science in 2025
- Applicants combined household income must not exceed R400 000 per year and not more than R600 000 per year for those living with disability
- Applicants who are SASSA grant recipients qualify for the bursary
- Applicants must be prepared to work for GABS for the number of years equal to the funding period
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE TO APPLY FOR THE GOLDEN ARROWS BUS SERVICE BURSARY
Students who meet the criteria and wish to apply for the bursary must follow steps below:
- STEP 1 – Write an email requesting funding for 2025 and address it to: raymonddakuse@gabs.co.za
- STEP 2 – Gather and attach all required supporting documents as listed in the documents section below
- STEP 3 – Submit your application by sending your email titled “Golden Arrow Bursary 2025” before the closing date
DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
- Certified copy of your ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric (NSC) certificate
- Certified copy of your previous academic record
- Proof that you are registered or accepted for the 2nd year of BSc in Computer Science
- Proof of Residence
- Proof of household income (parents’/guardians’3 months recent bank statement or latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed)
- Recommendation letters from academic or professional referees
- Disability assessment report (for disabled applicants)
- Death certificate of parents (if orphaned)
