Gallagher Foundation Scholarship

The Gallagher Foundation was founded by Ellen and Jerry Gallagher with the intention of helping students with scholarships. South Africa, Mexico and Turkey were selected as host countries with South Africa leading in 2002. Mexico followed in 2004 and then Turkey in year 2005. The Gallagher Foundation Scholarship programme is attracted to the selected countries because of democratic governance, an excellent university, a developing economy that is able to create jobs.

What Is Gallagher Foundation Scholarship?

The Gallagher Foundation Scholarship is a scheme that helps undergraduate students with financial support to complete their studies. Applicants for the scholarship must be accepted by the University of Cape Town. It is a merits based scholarship programme that runs in three countries including South Africa.

Gallagher Foundation Scholarship – Fields of Study

The Foundation supports students who are pursuing studies in all fields of study for 2025 academic year. Funding is available to students at the University of Cape Town. The foundation only considers applications for undergraduate studies.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be a South African citizens
  • Applicants must be admitted to study at UCT with final acceptance received
  • Applicants must be admitted into a 4 year (or 6 year medical) undergraduate program
  • Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence on the National Benchmark test in all competency areas
  • Scholarship applicants must come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and must present evidence of financial need
  • A strong academic record is a must
  • Applicants must be entering their first year of study in 2025
  • Applicants must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60%
