About the Bursary Provider – SAVF
The South African Veterinary Foundation (SAVF) is a South African non-profit organisation founded in 1984 to support and promote veterinary and biological sciences. It is involved in a number of activities that raise funds for veterinary education, research, and public awareness about animal health.
The Foundation offers bursaries with the aim of helping future veterinarians in the country. Ths contributes to the growth and sustainability of the profession.
Who Is Eligible?
The SAVF Bursary Programme 2026 targets students who are close to finishing their veterinary science qualification. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:
- You must be studying towards a BVSc (Bachelor of Veterinary Science) degree.
- You must be enrolled in the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Pretoria.
- You must currently be in your 4th or 5th year of study.
- You must show that you need financial support to continue studying.
- You need to have achieved at least 60% average in your academic results.
- You must have active involvement in student life—this could include sports, cultural activities, or other student events.
SAVF Bursary Programme 2026 – Value and Benefits
The Foundation makes available four bursaries to the value of R12 000 each. This helps students towards the following expenses:
- Two bursaries for 4th year students
- Two bursaries for 5th year students
The bursary can be used to help cover study-related expenses like registration, tuition, student debt, or other costs. There is no obligation or work-back requirement from beneficiaries.
