WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SPIRIT EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP?
Applicants must meet the Foundation’s academic, financial, citizenship and school-intention requirements before submitting an application. The current 2028 application form confirms that applicants must be female South African citizens who are in Grade 6 during 2026.
- Be a female South African citizen.
- Be currently in Grade 6 in 2026.
- Be intending to enter Grade 8 in 2028.
- Have a gross household income of less than R20,000 per month before deductions.
- Have achieved at least Code 6 in English Home Language, Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the relevant Grade 6 reports.
- Intend to apply to and attend the Cape Academy of Mathematics, Science and Technology.
- Have a strong academic ability and an interest in STEM-related studies and careers.
Admission to the Cape Academy does not automatically result in a Spirit Foundation scholarship. The Foundation makes its own scholarship selection after the application and assessment process.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE SPIRIT EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP?
Applications are submitted online through the Spirit Foundation’s official scholarship application form. The Foundation states that all sections must be completed and the required supporting documents must be certified and uploaded before submission.
- Complete the online Spirit Foundation Grade 8 Scholarship application.
- Provide the learner’s personal and academic information.
- Provide the required parent or caregiver information.
- Upload the required certified supporting documents.
- Complete the learner’s application essay in the learner’s own words.
- Submit the completed application before 31 October 2026.
Parents or guardians remain responsible for applying to the Cape Academy through the applicable school admission process. The Spirit Foundation does not apply to the school on behalf of applicants.
The Foundation’s published timeline indicates that initial screening and applicant feedback will take place from December 2026 to January 2027, followed by academic testing, interviews and further Foundation testing before successful applicants receive offers.

The current online application form requires supporting documentation to be certified before it is uploaded. Missing required documentation can result in the application being unsuccessful.

- Updated immigration documentation for a foreign parent or guardian, where applicable.
- Proof of residence.

- Three months’ bank statements for parent/guardian 1.
- Three months’ bank statements for parent/guardian 2, where applicable.
- Grade 5 Term 4 report.
- Grade 6 Term 3 report.
- A motivational essay written by the learner in their own words.
The current application form asks the learner to write an essay of no more than 500 words answering a question about three real or imaginary people they would invite to dinner and what they would discuss. The Foundation specifically states that the essay must be the scholar’s own work and must not be produced with ChatGPT or other assistance.

WHAT DOES THE SPIRIT EDUCATION FOUNDATION DO?
The Spirit Foundation is a philanthropic organisation involved in education, community development and other initiatives. Its education programme focuses on creating opportunities for young people who may face financial barriers to quality education.
