WHAT IS THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY?

The Hollywood Foundation Bursary is provided through the Future is Bright Bursary Programme under the Foundation’s My Education pillar. The programme supports South African students pursuing selected full-time qualifications at DHET-registered higher education institutions.

The programme covers students entering university through to later undergraduate and postgraduate study, subject to the requirements of the relevant intake.

WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY COVER?

  • Information Technology and Computer Science, including Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, and Systems and Network Administration
  • Data Science
  • Finance and Accounting
  • BCom Law
  • Marketing, including Digital Marketing and Communications
  • Media and Communications
  • Graphic Design
  • Supply Chain and Logistics Management
  • Project Management
  • Business Management
  • Human Resources Management
  • Architectural Design

WHAT ARE THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?

  • South African citizenship.
  • Full-time study.
  • Study at a public or private institution registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
  • Grade 12 applicants must have achieved a Bachelor’s Pass and a minimum overall average of 65%.
  • Current tertiary students must have achieved a minimum academic average of 60% in their most recent completed academic year.
  • The qualification must be a Higher Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma.
  • TVET College students are not eligible.
  • Master’s, PhD and other senior qualifications are not funded.
  • Applicants must study in an eligible field.
  • Shortlisted applicants must be available for screening, interviews and assessments where required.

The programme also excludes employees and immediate family members or relatives of employees of Hollywoodbets and certain related Hollywood Group companies from the external applicant route. A separate application route is provided for employees and relatives.

WHAT DOES THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY COVER?

The Future is Bright Bursary Programme provides full and partial bursary packages.

Full bursary package:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Approved prescribed study materials and textbooks
  • Student accommodation, on or off campus
  • Meal allowance or stipend

Partial bursary package:

  • Registration fees
  • Tuition fees
  • Prescribed study material allowance

The programme does not publish one fixed monthly allowance. A meal allowance or stipend forms part of the full bursary package where applicable.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY?

Applications are submitted online through the Hollywood Foundation’s Future is Bright Bursary application portal.

  • Select the appropriate applicant route.
  • Complete the application form.
  • Provide your personal, academic and institutional information.
  • Upload all required documents.
  • Complete the motivation statement.
  • Review the information provided.
  • Submit the application.

Incomplete applications and applications containing misrepresentations are disregarded.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY?

  • Certified copy of a valid South African identity document.
  • Proof of address.
  • Matric certificate or statement of results.
  • Detailed information about the chosen qualification.
  • Motivation statement explaining the chosen field of study and how it will be used after graduation.
  • Parent or guardian identity documents where required.
  • Proof of household income.
  • NSFAS funding history and supporting documents where applicable.
  • Other bursary or funding information where applicable.
  • Acceptance letter or proof of application from the institution.
  • Registration and tuition fee information or a pro forma invoice.
  • Name and address of the institution.
  • Verified banking details of the institution.

Current tertiary students may also be required to provide academic transcripts, proof of registration, tertiary fee statements and full academic records.

Shortlisted applicants may be required to submit updated tuition, textbook and accommodation quotations.

WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY?

The latest confirmed application deadline was 3 September 2026 at 12:00 midday for the 2027 academic year. The next intake has not yet been announced.

The official application portal should be checked for the next opening date and application deadline.

WHAT ARE THE HOLLYWOOD FOUNDATION BURSARY OBLIGATIONS?

  • Recipients must provide academic results at the end of each semester.
  • A minimum 60% pass rate is required for consideration for funding in the subsequent academic year.
  • Recipients must reapply for subsequent academic years.
  • Funding is reviewed annually and is not guaranteed for the full qualification.
  • Recipients may not hold another bursary, award, internship or emolument that creates a post-study service obligation.
  • Recipients must obtain written permission before changing an approved qualification or institution.
  • Recipients must conduct themselves professionally and ethically.
  • False or misleading information can result in termination of the bursary and repayment of bursary benefits.

On successful completion of the approved qualification, the current terms give the Company the right of first offer of employment where an offer is made. Where a graduate employment contract is entered into, the required service period is equal to the duration of the bursary, subject to the terms of the agreement.
