🟢 KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY 2027 STATUS: OPEN
Application period: 1 June to 30 September 2026
Closing date: 30 September 2026
Study year: 2027
Last verified: September 2026

WHAT IS THE KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY?

The Khobab Wind Farm Bursary is a community-focused tertiary education funding programme for South African citizens who live in Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape. The programme supports students studying at South African tertiary institutions and is administered through StudyTrust.

The bursary is not restricted to a particular career field. It is intended to help eligible residents of Loeriesfontein access higher education and training, with funding determined according to the applicant’s circumstances and the programme’s available budget.

WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY COVER?

The programme supports any field of study. Applicants can therefore apply for funding towards eligible qualifications across different academic and career fields rather than being limited to a prescribed list of scarce skills.

Study may be undertaken at a South African public or accredited private higher education institution, including a TVET College, University of Technology or University.

  • Field of study: Any field
  • Institution types: TVET Colleges, Universities of Technology and Universities
  • Study location: South Africa

Applications for Honours, BTech and other postgraduate qualifications can also be considered. For these applicants, selection takes into account whether the additional qualification is likely to improve the applicant’s employment prospects.

WHAT ARE THE KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?

To be considered, applicants must meet the core requirements for the relevant intake. The current programme requirements are:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Live in Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape.
  • Be a current student at a South African tertiary institution, or be commencing studies in 2027.
  • Study, or intend to study, at a South African public or accredited private tertiary institution.
  • Study towards a qualification in any field.

The programme has a limited number of bursaries, so meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an award. StudyTrust states that applications are assessed to identify the most deserving candidates. Postgraduate applications are considered partly on whether the additional qualification is likely to improve the applicant’s employment prospects.

The local residency requirement is particularly important. Living in the wider Northern Cape does not by itself satisfy the published requirement; the applicant must live in Loeriesfontein.

WHAT DOES THE KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY COVER?

The value of an award is determined on an individual basis. The bursary may be used towards the following study-related costs:

  • University tuition fees
  • Registration fees
  • Examination fees
  • Accommodation in a university residence or equivalent
  • Meals
  • Learning materials, including textbooks and stationery

Because the value is assessed individually, there is no single published rand amount that should be treated as the standard Khobab Wind Farm Bursary value. Applicants should also not assume that every listed expense will automatically be paid in full; the final award depends on the bursary allocation and the applicant’s circumstances.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR THE KHOBAB WIND FARM BURSARY?

ABOUT KHOBAB WIND FARM

Khobab Wind Farm is a renewable energy project in the Northern Cape associated with the Loeriesfontein community. The Khobab and Loeriesfontein wind farms are located about 60 km north of Loeriesfontein and form part of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).

The wind farms have a strong community-development focus. Their current community programmes include support for areas such as education, youth upliftment, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure and skills development. The bursary therefore forms part of the broader community support associated with the wind farm rather than being a nationwide field-specific skills bursary.
