Eskom is South Africa’s main electricity generators and distributors. There may soon be changes in how the company conducts its business. This is due to legislation which is opening up for other distributors who are independent. Almost all households and businesses rely on Eskom to keep lights open and machines running. Eskom has a long history of supporting students by bursaries and various skills development programmes.
Fields of Study covered by Eskom Bursary
Eskom invites undergraduate students to apply for financial assistance in a form of a bursary. There are three types of bursaries offered by Eskom and the are:
- Full Bursary – Pays for tuition, books, meals, housing, and a monthly allowance.
- Partial Bursary – Covers tuition and study materials only.
- Scholarship for Eskom Staff Dependents – Given to children of Eskom employees who qualify.
Studies must be undertaken in on full-time bases in 2026 academic year. Here are fields of study that are considered:

- Mechanical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Chemical Engineering
- Computer Science
- Environmental Science

- Accounting
- Logistics
These studies are selected by Eskom because they are aligned with what the company does.
Eligibility Criteria for Eskom Bursary
If you believe that this opportunity is for you, makes make sure that you meet these requirements below:
- You must be a South African citizen.
- You must have Grade 12 with good marks in Maths, Science, and English.
- You must be under 25 years of age.
- You must study full-time at a South African public university or university of technology.
- Minimum Level 5 in Pure Maths and Physical Science.
- Minimum Level 4 in English.

This bursary is a full cover because it caters for all expenses during your study period. It covers the following expenses:

Selection Process
Eskom selects students based on school marks, motivation, and potential. Shortlisted students may be invited for an interview. Eskom wants to fund learners who can later work in the energy sector or join the company.
