WHAT IS THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP?

The Fasken Scholarship Programme consists of two scholarships offered by Fasken in South Africa: the Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship and the Lundi Gadla Scholarship.

The Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship is awarded to a deserving law student and recognises the legacy of Ricci Schwab Lyons, a former Fasken partner and Chief Operating Officer in Johannesburg. The Lundi Gadla Scholarship was established in memory of Lundi Gadla and supports a student at Nelson Mandela University who requires financial support for LLB studies.

WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP COVER?

The scholarships have different study requirements:

  • Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship: Law.
  • Lundi Gadla Scholarship: LLB studies at Nelson Mandela University.

WHAT ARE THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS?

The requirements differ between the two scholarships.

Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship:

  • You must be registered for your second, third or penultimate year of law school.
  • You must maintain a minimum average of 65% for the years of study completed before applying.
  • You must participate in vacation work programmes offered by Fasken.
  • You must demonstrate leadership and an interest in the community or community issues.
  • You must be self-motivated and have the potential to become an effective attorney at Fasken.

Lundi Gadla Scholarship:

  • You must be studying at Nelson Mandela University.
  • You must be in your second, third or final year of study.
  • You must require financial support for your LLB studies.
  • You must demonstrate leadership ability.
  • You must be motivated and hard-working.
  • You must have an interest in community issues or projects.

WHAT DOES THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP COVER?

The Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship is expected to continue into the recipient’s following year of study unless the recipient fails one or more subjects.

Recipients of the Ricci Schwab Lyons Scholarship who successfully graduate are required to accept articles of clerkship at Fasken if offered. If the offer is declined, the full scholarship amount must be repaid to Fasken.

Indicate which scholarship you are applying for and submit your supporting documents with the application.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP?

  • Certified copy of your ID document.
  • Full academic record or transcripts for all completed years of study.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Motivational letter.

WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE FASKEN SCHOLARSHIP?

31 October 2026.

Late submissions will be rejected.
