WHAT ARE THE NKANGALA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?

Applicants for this bursary programme must meet the stated eligibility requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between 17 and 35 years old.
  • Reside within the Nkangala District Municipality area of jurisdiction in Mpumalanga.
  • Reside in one of the district’s six local municipalities: Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani or Victor Khanye.
  • Come from a historically disadvantaged background.
  • Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Be studying or intend to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the prioritised fields.
  • Study or intend to study at a recognised and accredited public university, university of technology or TVET college in South Africa.
  • Have proven financial need, with a combined net household income not exceeding R180,000 per year.
  • Current university students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 60% for the 2026 academic year.
  • Current TVET college students must have achieved a minimum overall average of 50% for the 2026 academic year.
  • Qualifying applicants must agree to enter into a contractual agreement with Nkangala District Municipality.

WHAT DOES THE NKANGALA DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY BURSARY COVER?

The 2027 bursary information identifies the programme as financial support for qualifying full-time undergraduate study at a recognised and accredited public university, university of technology or TVET college. Applications submitted after the closing date will not be considered.

  • Certified copy of the applicant’s South African ID.
  • Certified Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results if currently in Matric.
  • Certified Matric certificate if Matric has been completed.
  • Certified latest academic results or academic record on the institution’s letterhead if currently studying.
  • Certified copies of parent or guardian ID documents.
  • Proof of household income, such as payslips, employment documentation, proof of pension or grant, or an affidavit where applicable.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of acceptance at the preferred institution, if available.
  • A motivation in support of the application.

The application form also requires applicants to complete and sign the declaration and checklist. Incomplete or incorrect applications may be disqualified.
