WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE BURSARY?
The Mohau Capital Bursary is aimed at Black students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate strong academic performance and potential. Applicants must meet the programme’s eligibility requirements before applying.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be Black, male or female.
- Be from a previously disadvantaged background.
- Be studying towards a qualification in one of the supported fields.
- Be enrolled in the second or higher year of study.
- Have a strong academic record.
- Have achieved a minimum average of 70% (B average).
- Demonstrate commitment to academic excellence.
- Show leadership potential.
- Demonstrate a desire to contribute positively to South Africa’s economic development.
Meeting the minimum requirements does not automatically guarantee a bursary, as applications are subject to the provider’s assessment and selection process.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE BURSARY?

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE BURSARY?
Applicants are required to provide supporting documents as part of the online application. These include:
- ID document or passport.
- Proof of registration.
- Academic record, including latest results.
- Motivational letter explaining why you are applying and why you should be selected.
- Proof of residence.
- Parents’ or guardians’ proof of household income, such as payslips, an affidavit for unemployed parents or guardians, or proof of a social grant or pension where applicable.
- Parents’, guardians’ or next-of-kin ID document or passport.
- Proof of any other study funding received, where applicable.
The application information also requires applicants to provide details such as their student number, degree programme, current year of study, academic average and contact details.
WHEN IS THE CLOSING DATE FOR THE BURSARY?
The closing date is 31 October 2026 at 23:00 for the 2027 academic year.
Applicants should submit the complete online application before the stated deadline because late applications are not accepted.
