The Sanlam Bursary Programme is targeting students who want to study Actuarial Science and are in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of studies in 2026. It caters for both citizens and non-citizens of South Africa.
About Sanlam Bursary Programme
Over and above financial support, recipients of this bursary receive hands-on mentorship, and guaranteed career opportunities. Sanlam was founded in 1918 as a mutual assurance society by a group of Afrikaans-speaking farmers. The company quickly grew and became a major provider of life insurance to South Africans. In the 1990s, Sanlam began to expand into other financial services and established a presence in other African countries. In 2002, Sanlam demutualized and listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

Sanlam Bursary Programme – Eligibility Criteria
Applicants who wish to be considered for this bursary must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before submitting their application:
- You must be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- You must be accepted to study at a recognised university in South Africa
- You must be studying full time towards a BSc in Actuarial Science or BCom in Actuarial Science
- You must be entering the 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of undergraduate studies in 2026
- You must have achieved a minimum of 80% for Mathematics in Matric (or most recent academic results)
- You must have achieved a minimum of 70% for English in Matric (or most recent academic results)
- Preference will be given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds
What Does Sanlam Bursary Programme Cover?
The bursary will provide cover for the following expenses:
- Registration fees
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation in university residence
- Meals
- Study materials/ books
- Travel allowance
- Monthly living allowance

Submit clear copies of the following supporting documentation along with your completed application form (the submission of these documents is compulsory – if any items are not included, your application may be disqualified):
- ID document (certified copy)
- Matric certificate (certified copy)
- Full academic record to date (certified copy)
- Motivational letter (1 page)
- Proof of household income (payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed – certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance at University (on institutions letterhead)
