The AIMS Google Deepmind Scholarship is offered by AIMS which is African Institute of Maths and Science. The institute is composed of pan-African academic institutions working together to train students in Mathathematics and Science. It was founded in Cape Town, South Africa in year 2003.
There are six centres of AIMS located in the following countries: South Africa, Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon, Rwanda and Tanzania. These are committed to nurturing Africa’s finest minds in Mathematics and Science.
What Is The AIMS Scholarship Programme?
AIMS partners with Google DeepMind, an artificial intelligence research company that is focusing on developing AI systems. It is that partnership that produced AIMS Scholarship. The scholarship programme provides funding to students from the continent.
The programme accepts 40 students who are pursuing Master’s in Mathematical Science as a field of study.
Fields of Study Covered by the AIMS Scholarship
Applicants for the scholarship must be African students who are interested in pursuing a Master’s in Mathematical Science. Studies must be undertaken in recognised public University of South Africa.

Expenses Covered by the AIMS Scholarship
The scholarship covers the following expenses incurred during studies:
- Tuition fees
- Accommodation
- Living expenses
- Medical insurance
Eligibility For The AIMS Scholarship
- Applicants must be African citizens
- Applicants must African citizens who reside anywhere in Africa
- Applicants must have completed a 4 year undergraduate degree OR a 3 year undergraduate degree with an Honours.
- Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in the following study fields: Computer Science/ Engineering/ Mathematics/ Statistics/ Physics or any other discipline with a strong computational and mathematical component
- Applicants must not have participated in any previous scholarship awards with AIMS
- Applicants must be passionate about Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning and Mathematics
How To Apply for the AIMS Scholarship?
Submissions must be made via the official AIMS Google Deepmind Scholarship Application page. You are required to sign up and then login to start with the process.
You must upload the following supporting documents:
- Your full academic performance transcript
- Motivational letter
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Closing Date
There is no application date for 2026 academic year as yet. We will provide an update once a new date is issued. Remember to always avoid late submission as it results in your disqualification.
