Are you a Black South African woman who is passionate about becoming a teacher? The Support Teacher Empowerment Trust (STET) Bursary Programme is a financial support which can help you pursue teaching qualifications without the burden of costs.
STET was established in 2017 as a non-profit organisation dedicated to transforming South Africa’s education system. It achieves this by empowering young Black women through bursaries, mentorship, and specialised training in areas like coding, robotics, mathematics, and digital skills.
STET Bursary Coverage
The STET Bursary for 2026 academic year covers these expenses below:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed books (study materials)
- Additional support through mentorship and skills development programmes.
Tution and study material gets paid directly to your institution.
Fields of Study
The STET is accepting funding requests from students pursuing ANY recognised teaching qualification. Emphasis is placed on preparing educators for basic education (includes integration of STEM and digital skills).
Eligibility Criteria – Who Can Apply?
If you wish to get funded by this bursary, you must meet these requirements:
- Be a Black South African woman
- Be studying (or intending to study) towards a teaching qualification in basic education
- Preference given to youth, but open to passionate applicants demonstrating commitment to education.
Over and above these requirements, you must have strong academic records and a drive to contribute to South Africa’s classrooms are essential.
Application Process
Applications are submitted online via the official STET portal.
There is a set of supporting documents that must accompany your application. These are:
- Certified copy of your South African ID.
- Academic transcripts or Matric results.
- Proof of registration or acceptance at a tertiary institution.
- Motivational letter explaining your passion for teaching.
- References or supporting testimonials.
Deadline
5 January 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.
