The Exxaro Bursary is offered by Exxaro Resources Limited – a minerals and coal mining company listed with the JSE. Previously called Kumba Resources, Exxaro has global operations in Africa, Europe, Australia and Asia.
Since its unbundling in 2006, Exxaro has continued to demonstrate its commitment to the development of countries in which it does business. In South Africa, the company has its head office located in Pretoria.
WHAT IS EXXARO BURSARY?
The Exxaro Bursary is a financial aid scheme which provides funding for engineering and mining careers. It caters for expenses incurred by its bursary recipients during the period of their studies. The bursary programme covers tuition, books, accommodation and may include some allowances.
FIELDS OF STUDY COVERED BY THE EXXARO BURSARY
In order for your 2025 academic year application for funding to be successful, you must be pursuing one of these qualifications:
- BEng in Electrical Engineering
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering
- BSc in Mining Engineering
- Bachelors Degree in Mine Surveying
- BEng in Civil Engineering
- BEng in Industrial Engineering
- BEng in Metallurgical Engineering
MORE ABOUT EXXARO BURSARY – ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
If you wish to have your funding application considered, you must meet the following criteria:
- Applicants must be South African citizens
- Only full-time applicants can apply
- Applicants must undertake studies in a recognised and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- Industrial Engineering applicants: must be studying towards a BEng Industrial Engineering degree and registered for the 2nd year of study in 2025
- Civil Engineering applicants: must be pursuing a BEng Civil Engineering degree and registered for the 2nd year of study in 2025
- Electrical Engineering applicants: must be studying towards a BEng Electrical Engineering degree and registered for the 2nd year of study in 2025
- Mining Engineering applicants: must be pursuing a BSc Mining Engineering degree and registered for the 2nd or 4th/final year of study in 2025
- Mechanical Engineering applicants: must be pursuing a BEng Mechanical Engineering degree and registered for the 2nd or 3rd year of study in 2025
- Metallurgical Engineering applicants: must be pursuing a BEng Metallurgy degree and registered for the 2nd or 4th/final year of study in 2025
- Mine Surveying applicants: must be entering their 1st year of B Mine Surveying degree in 2025 and willing to continue with Hons

- Your updated CV
- Certified copy of your ID document
- Certified copy of your Matric certificate
