About the Rand West City Mayoral Bursary
The Rand West City Local Municipality Mayoral Bursary is a 100% local bursary programme initiated by Executive Mayor Cllr William Matsheke. It is exclusively for matriculants and school leavers who reside within the Rand West City boundaries (Randfontein, Westonaria, Mohlakeng, Badirile, Bhongweni, Bekkersdal, Simunye, Toekomsrus and surrounding areas).

The bursary will be awarded for studies in the following scarce-skill fields:
- Civil Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mining Engineering
- Renewable Energy / Green Technology
- Information Technology & Computer Science
- Agriculture
- Environmental Health
- Finance / Accounting / Auditing
- Public Management / Administration
Expenses Covered by the Rand West City Municipality Bursary
What the Bursary Covers Successful applicants receive comprehensive funding including:
- Full tuition fees
- Registration fees
- Prescribed textbooks and laptop allowance
- Accommodation
- Meals allowance
- Transport allowance (where applicable)
Eligibility Requirements – Who Can Apply?
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria:
- South African citizen
- Permanently reside within Rand West City Local Municipality
- Completed Matric with a Bachelor’s pass or currently in Matric (2025)
- Minimum overall average of 70%
- Provisionally or fully accepted to study full-time at a public university, university of technology or TVET college in 2026 for one of the fields listed above
- From a financially disadvantaged / low-income household (NSFAS applicants and rejects are welcome to apply)
- Preference is given to female students, students with disabilities and child-headed households
How to Apply for the Rand West City Mayoral Bursary 2026
- Download the application form from the official municipal website: www.randwestcity.gov.za OR collect a physical form from: – Randfontein Municipal Offices (cnr Pollock & Sutherland) – Westonaria Municipal Offices (cnr Saturnus & Neptune) – Any public library in the municipality
- Submit clear copies of the following supporting documents (certified not older than 3 months):
- ID document
- Matric certificate or latest results
- Proof of residence (utility bill or councillor letter)
- Parent(s)/guardian(s) ID documents and proof of income (payslips or affidavit if unemployed)
- Proof of acceptance / provisional acceptance from tertiary institution
- Short motivation letter
