[ez-toc]ABOUT RICHARDS BAY COAL TERMINAL (RBCT)
The Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) is the single largest coal export terminal in the world. Located in South Africa, it plays a crucial role in facilitating the export of South African coal to international markets.
It was established in year 1976 with a capacity of just 12 million tones per annum which has grown to 91 million tones. The terminal is located in one of the deepest sea ports which enables it to handle large vessels and coal volumes. This is one of the biggest contributors to South African economy in terms of revenue and job creation.

In order for your application to be considered by RBCT, you must be pursuing one of the following qualifications:
- B Sc. /BEng Electrical Engineering
- B Sc. /BEng Mechanical Engineering
- B Sc. Computer Science/I.T.
- BEng. Tech. /ND Electrical Engineering
- BEng. Tech. /ND Mechanical Engineering
- BCom. Accounting
- Bcom. Human Resources Management

RBCT BURSARY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Applicants for 2025 academic year bursary must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- You must be a South African citizen
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying or intend on studying full-time, towards a qualification within one of the fields of study listed above
- You must be studying or intend on studying at a recognized and accredited tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must have proven financial need
- Preference will be given to students residing within the King Cetshwayo District Municipality areas (previously uThungulu District Municipality), in the KwaZulu-Natal province (however, students from outside of this area are also encouraged to apply)
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE RICHARDS BAY COAL TERMINAL (RBCT) BURSARY
Applications for 2025 academic year have not been communicated by RBCT. The application process below is for previous year of which applications have closed.
Apply by downloading RBCT Bursary Appication 2024 (.pdf) and complete it. Below is the list of documents that must accompany your application form:
- Applicant ID copy
- Parents/guardian certified ID copies
- Parents/guardian copy proof of Income/Salary Slips (Father and Mother)
- Applicant Grade11 final year results/reports (scholars)
- Applicant Grade 12 mid-year results/reports (scholars)
- Applicant Grade 12 final results/reports (school leavers and university students)
- Proof of registration/application at a Tertiary Institution (if available)
- Applicant latest statement of academic results/reports (university students)
- Shortened Curriculum Vitae (max 1 page including contact details)
