WHAT FIELDS OF STUDY DOES THE AWS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT BURSARY COVER?

The AWS Skills Development Bursary supports full-time undergraduate and postgraduate study in fields relevant to the technology sector. The approved study areas include:

  • Computer Science and Information Technology
  • Commerce: Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Accounting and Finance
  • Engineering: Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Mechatronics and Civil Engineering
  • Education: Bachelor of Education specialising in Mathematics and Science
  • Medicine

At postgraduate level, the bursary supports Honours, Postgraduate Diploma and Master’s studies in Computer Science, Information Technology and specified engineering fields. Students with disabilities may apply for undergraduate and postgraduate study across all fields.

WHAT ARE THE AWS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT BURSARY REQUIREMENTS?

Applicants for the AWS Skills Development Bursary must meet the programme’s academic, citizenship and study requirements. The minimum requirements include:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Have strong academic and leadership potential.
  • Be studying or intend to study full-time towards an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.
  • For Matric applicants, achieve at least 65% for Mathematics and 65% for English Home Language or English First Additional Language.
  • Current Grade 12 learners must have Mathematics and Physical Science marks of at least 65%.
  • Students already at tertiary level must have an overall average above 65%.
  • Study or intend to study at a selected South African university.

WHAT DOES THE AWS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT BURSARY COVER?

The AWS Skills Development Bursary is a full-cost bursary, with funding subject to applicable caps. The bursary covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • Residence or private accommodation
  • Subsistence
  • Stationery and books
  • A personal computer

StudyTrust does not publish one fixed rand value for every AWS bursary recipient. Funding is provided for the approved costs within the applicable limits.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED FOR THE AWS SKILLS DEVELOPMENT BURSARY?

The current application instructions require supporting documentation to verify the applicant’s identity, academic performance and financial circumstances. These include:

  • Recent head-and-shoulders photograph
  • Certified copy of South African ID
  • Grade 11 final results and Matric June results, if currently in Matric
  • Matric certificate, if Matric has been completed
  • Full academic record and latest available results, if already studying
  • Proof of parents’ or guardians’ household income
  • Parents’ death certificates, where applicable
  • Court documentation or an affidavit relating to child support, where applicable
  • Proof of disability, where applicable

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides the funding for the AWS Skills Development Bursary. The programme is designed to support South African students pursuing full-time qualifications in fields relevant to technology and related professional skills.
